What is the vision of Bangladesh in 2071? What sort of cities, towns and villages can we envision? We have been collecting essays in the following 9 themes from researchers and academics. Now we want to open up the book to architects and illustrators, those who can visualise complex notions into a drawing or image. For each of the 9 themes, a set of key-phrases are put forth, which should be used to guide the illustration, but the vision must come from you. Each of these illustrations will be used as the opening image in these themes, and also, will be part of an exhibition for the book launch.
The Submittal:
The competition is open to analog and digital means, and any software is allowed. The submittal should be one illustration for each theme by a participant, for as many themes based on the theme outlines listed below. Each illustration can be a collage of multiple visions created by piecing and layering together a variety of cutouts, textures and colours that tells a story as a whole. The final outcome should be in colour and scalable to view in various digital devices as well as suitable for large format printing. For colour, secondary and tertiary schemes are encouraged. Nonetheless, Next50 book is aimed not towards only architects/illustrators, but rather at a wider audience. In other words, the image must be able to communicate the idea of the themes to the general public.
The criteria for judging
The ability to communicate and visualise a future scenario connecting to the key-phrases listed in each of the themes below.
The overall aesthetic quality of the graphic.

History and Heritage: Sustainable conservation of natural and built heritage, Tangible and intangible heritage, Adaptive reuse, Future of national monuments & Identity, Modern heritage, co-existence of old and new, Heritage education and teaching, Digital technologies for heritage documentation and conservation, Public awareness and engagement.
Urban-Rural Continuum: Future of towns and villages, Re-imaging peri-urban areas, Rural development pathways, Deindustrialisation, Agro-ecology based development, Connectivity (transport & communication), Livelihood diversity, Access to amenities and services, Homesteads, Transitional spaces.
Urban Fabric and Placemaking: City as a place for live, work and visit, Future parks and public spaces, Green rooftops at city scale, Urban neighbourhoods, Social cohesion, Housing for all, Future building typologies,
Inclusivity: Women’s inclusion and safety in urban spaces, Safe mobility, Women’s empowerment, Financial freedom, Workplace equality, Participation of women in built environment profession, Future of refugees and low-income dwellers in cities, Age-friendly urbanism
Wellbeing and Future Generations: Child friendly cities, Future playgrounds, Streets for play, Creative outdoors, Learning from nature in an urban environment, Education for all, Rights and wellbeing of marginalized children, Children’s voice in built environment planning and design
Informality: Future of housing for urban poor’s, Future of street trading, Slum development, Re-imagining pavement dwellings, Equitable access to drinking water and public services.
Development and Disaster: Disaster resilient development, Building back greener, Sea-level rise and adaptive coastal settlement, Living with floods, Water sensitive cities, Information technology & disaster risk reduction, Emergency shelters, Post-pandemic urbanism, Transition to clean energy and green construction technology.
Landscape, Ecology and Infrastructure: Future of natural environment, Urban foodscapes/ edible landscapes, Blue- green infrastructure, Future transport infrastructure, Urban forest, Coastal afforestation and cultural landscape, Eco-friendly development, Biomimicry.
Computation and Technology: Technological advancement in urban environment, Digitized urbanity, Information technology, Building technology, BIM in architecture, Smart building, Virtual reality.
Entry Requirements:
This is an open competition. However, pre-registration is required.

Submission format:
Canvas size: 15”x15” (Square & borderless)
Digital copy as a pdf and an image (jpg/ jpeg)
Resolution: 500 pix/inch
Naming of the image file: NEXT50_<Theme Name>_surname of the participant(s)
The submission must also include a docx/doc file containing the following:

In nominating Winners, Jury decision will be regarded as the final one. The Organizer reserves the right to cancel or suspend or alter the rules and/or date at any stage if deemed necessary in its opinion, and if circumstances arise outside of its control.
